INFORMATION RESOURCE CENTER ASSISTA (IRC ASSISTANT)

The U.S. Mission in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for (01) position of Information Resource Center (IRC) in the Public Diplomacy Section (PD). 

Opening Date: June 09, 2017

Closing Date: June 23, 2017

Open to: all interested candidates

Work Schedule: Full-time (40 hours/week)

                            SALARY:  *Ordinarily Resident (OR): CFA 9,123,040 p.a. (Starting Salary)

                                                                         (Position Grade: FSN-07)

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:

Position is intended to oversee daily operations and customer service for the Information Resource Center/American Library within the Embassy. The IRC is the Embassy’s hub to reach youth audiences and has written materials and live programs that support Mission goals. The IRC Assistant would assist library patrons and embassy staff with general research and conduct outreach programs (both inside and outside the Embassy) using Library resources and State Department materials. The incumbent will be responsible for the online blog and providing content for digital outreach.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  1. EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree from the social sciences, communication or related field (License equivalent from a post-secondary institution) is required.
  2.  EXPERIENCE: Two years work experience in an office setting is required. Internship or on-the-job experience in library or youth center is required.
  3. LANGUAGE: Level III English and Level III French speaking and writing ability is required. English language skill will be tested
  4. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Critical thinking, analytical skills, writing and editing (in English and French); Information literacy and evaluation – knowledge of resources and ability to evaluate the quality of a source; High skill and comfort level with Internet technologies including social media, and ability to learn library database system. These will be tested.
  5. JOB KNOWLEDGE: A good range of local library and academic contacts. Knowledge of local protocol and customs. Familiarity with Microsoft Office (word, excel, outlook) is required. Online research knowledge of search engines, online reference sources and social media. Familiarity with accounting and budgeting is helpful, but not required. Public speaking skills required. All these will be tested.
